United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program contributes to peace and development through volunteering around the world. The volunteer program uses the experience of professionals in projects focused on humanitarian aid and the support of human rights and democracy. It is based on values such as free will, engagement and solidarity.
The basic prerequisites for working at UNV are the required level of education, relevant professional experience and the required maturity, character and strengths required for UN volunteer tasks. Volunteers are divided by age into UN Youth and UN University volunteers (18 to 26 years), UN Specialists (27-80 years) and UN Experts (35-80 years). Contracts are concluded for a maximum of 4 years, with the exception of short-term electoral, humanitarian and similar operations. Volunteers receive a modest monthly allowance to cover basic personal needs. UNV receives funding from the United Nations Development Programme, from partner UN bodies and from donor contributions to the UNV Special Voluntary Fund.
